A quick reflection on my time at Expo West 2026 from what inspired me, what concerned me, and the trends shaping healthier packaged foods.
I attended the Natural Products Expo West 2026 with a healthy‑body, healthy‑mind approach. As always, the crowds were immense, and every corner of the wellness industry was represented. It was fascinating to observe the marketing strategies at play from promotional gifts and lotteries to interactive games that drew long lines and sparked spontaneous conversations.
Joining a few of these activities allowed me to meet people I would have otherwise walked past. It also gave me a chance to practice my presentation skills, something I’ve needed as I step more fully into my new mission. Each interaction boosted my confidence as I felt genuine interest and encouragement from others. I left the show feeling empowered and grateful for the experience.
With endless food samples available, staying mindful was essential. What I continue to notice is that many products still contain too much sugar and salt, unhealthy fats, flavorings, and preservatives, even though there seems to be a shift toward reducing unhealthy ingredients. Consumer demand over the past few years has clearly pushed major brands in a better direction.
Still, a few trends surprised me:
On a positive note, I saw real improvements in gluten‑free products, especially in taste, texture, and packaging. However, it remains essential to read the ingredients list carefully and to be aware that not all gluten‑free items use organic or high‑quality sources.
Of course, I had to visit the few French companies present at the show. Most showcased baked goods and sweet specialties: madeleines, brioches, galettes, cookies, filled crêpes, fruit spreads, jams, and dried fruits. Some of my favorites included:
Le Chic Patissier - Le Chic Pâtissier - High Quality Baked Goods
Comtes de Provence - Les confitures Bio Comtes de Provence
St. Dalfor - St. Dalfour - Healthy Fruit Spreads and Dried Fruits
St. Michel - Galettes & Madeleines, The Authentic French Taste
La Boulangère - Home - La Boulangère USA

Expo West left me hopeful, but it also highlighted a deeper cultural shift. We have progressively normalized so-called "natural products" processed, packaged foods as an acceptable part of our daily life. Even when brands use better ingredients, processing is still processing. It subtly shapes our habits, our cravings, and ultimately our health. The global quality may be improving, but our bodies still rely on the natural nutrients found in real, whole foods. Convenience is helpful, but it should never become the compass that guides our nourishment.
While some carefully chosen packaged options can be reasonable allies when time is truly limited, and for special occasions, they are not replacements for real food. My recommendation toward processed foods remains simple and the same as in the past years:
In the end, wellness and eating healthy are not about perfection. They are about awareness, intention, and choosing foods that truly support our health, energy, and long‑term vitality.
