Integrity and Trust

Oct 28, 2026

Integrity and trust are closely connected, but they are not the same thing.

Integrity is a quality within each of us. It is the practice of being honest, consistent, ethical, and aligned with our deepest values, even when no one is watching. Trust, on the other hand, exists between people. It is the confidence we place in one another based on what we consistently say and do.

I see integrity as the foundation and trust as the natural result. When integrity is demonstrated consistently over time, trust begins to grow.

Integrity is one of the core values I bring to my coaching. Why? Because trust is essential to the work we do together. Without trust, clients would not feel safe enough to explore their deepest feelings, speak openly about their challenges, or share the experiences that matter most to them.

The coaching relationship is built on creating a space where people can be fully themselves. That space can only exist when there is confidence that what is shared will be met with respect, care, and confidentiality.

Over the years, I have had countless opportunities to take advantage of what I know about the people I work with. Some have even suggested that I write a book about what happens behind the scenes in close coaching relationships. My answer has always been the same: absolutely not.

The choice is easy because it reflects who I am and the values I live by. Throughout my life, I have worked consciously and intentionally to honor the trust people place in me. Having experienced betrayal myself on too many occasions, I understand the pain it causes and the lasting impact it can leave behind.

For that reason, I will never use a client's information, ideas, vulnerabilities, or experiences for my own gain. I will never use them to gain power, influence, or recognition. Nor will I share them to impress others.

Our conversations are private and will remain private. If a client prefers not to have their name mentioned or photograph displayed in testimonials, I fully respect that choice. Confidentiality is not simply a professional obligation for me. It is a personal commitment.

One client once told me that when it comes to their personal information, I am like a magician's disappearing act with no return. I laughed and took it as one of the highest compliments I could receive.

My professional and personal values guide me in everything I do. They shape how I show up, how I serve, and how I lead my life. Integrity is not something I turn on when I am coaching. It is a way of being that I strive to embody every day.

The most meaningful coaching relationships are built on mutual trust, honesty, and respect. Just as my clients place their trust in me, I value working with people who are committed to those same principles. When that foundation exists, remarkable transformation becomes possible.

If you choose to work with me, know that integrity, respect, and confidentiality are not optional extras. They are woven into every aspect of the coaching experience. They always have been, and they always will be.

Let me leave you with this. Every person who enters my coaching space brings a story that deserves to be held with care. My role is not to expose it, own it, or benefit from it. My role is to honor it. When someone shares their fears, dreams, struggles, or the parts of themselves they rarely show anyone, they are offering something precious. I have never taken that lightly throughout my 27 years as a coach, and I have no reason to believe that will ever change.

If you are looking for a coaching relationship grounded in integrity, respect, and genuine trust, I invite you to connect with me at MarieAnnick.com/contact.
